The Forbidden Warriors by Moud Adel

The Forbidden Warriors (The Forbidden, #1)

I found this book to be quite confusing and difficult to keep up with. The book appears to be the first book in the series, but has two prequels that are both set and released prior to this one, which may have ended up giving me a little bit more of an idea what was going on if I had read those first. Unfortunately, that was not the case, and I really struggled with reading this one.

Midnight Monster Club by Gerhard Gehrke

Midnight Monster Club (Fallen Rogues Book 1)

Midnight Monster Club was an interesting book which was very well written and packed with monsters doing their best to survive in a world that hates anyone who isn’t fully. The main character, Digger, is enjoyable as a reluctant hero who keeps getting pulled into situations he would prefer to avoid. It made his journey a bit more enjoyable, but at the same time I found the stakes to be lacking a bit and found the book quite easy to put down.

Ashes: The Frozen Flame by Paul J Bennett

Ashes (Frozen Flame #1)

This was one of the books in my batch that appealed to me the most. It featured some nice magic and training montages which I’m always a big fan on. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite click with any of the characters in it. I think this was partially because the book didn’t really go into any of the characters internal thoughts and so I felt quite distant from them.

Fighter Fred and the Dungeon of Doom by Jason A. Holt

Fighter Fred and the Dungeon of Doom

Fighter Fred was quite a fun story that takes the LitRPG genre and instead of using video games, applies the concept into more of a DnD style game. I found this book enjoyable, but the humour didn’t quite hit it for me.It played off a lot of the tabletop style tropes which was enjoyable, however I never really got into the book.

And that’s it! Now you might’ve noticed that all of these books were in Tam’s batch and that he has reviewed all of his books. Therefore, this means that we will not be choosing a semi-finalist from this group. We didn’t feel it was fair to put forth a semi-finalist that was DNF’d or that we didn’t feel strongly about.

This means the Inn will have 3 semi-finalists. One of those three will become the finalist.

Check back for more updates soon. We’ll have Hiu’s semi-finalist up next followed by our finalist being announced on Halloween!
