What Is The Fantasy Inn Podcast?

Fantasy Inn podcast art

The Fantasy Inn podcast is dedicated to sharing our love of all things fantasy and discussing the broader speculative fiction industry. Episodes include discussion panels, book reviews, and interviews with a variety of guests in the speculative industry.

Episode Types

Interviews

Roughly twice a month, Travis interviews someone in the speculative fiction industry. This is usually authors, though podcasters, artists, editors, and others have been guests.

An example interview with Martha Wells. The blog post for this episode can be found here.

Fantasy Inn Discussions

Between interviews, the bloggers at the Fantasy Inn discuss a topic in depth among themselves.

An example discussion episode on why stories become favorites. The blog post for this episode can be found here.

Panels

Panels are a mix between interview and discussion episodes. Sometimes several guests will come on the podcast together, or we may invite a guest to join in a discussion relevant to their interests and experience.

An example panel on worldbuilding with Tasha Suri and K.S. Villoso. The blog post for this episode can be found here.

Book Talk

These are less formal than the written reviews on the blog. These episodes are where we rave about books we love, often with a guest or two.

An example book talk episode featuring Daniel Greene. The blog post for this episode can be found here.

Crossovers

Occasionally we’ll do a crossover episode with another speculative fiction podcast. These will typically be similar to discussion episodes and may include an episode on the guest podcast’s feed as well.

An example crossover episode with The Legendarium. The blog post for this episode can be found here.

Booking Guests

If you’re interested in being a guest on the podcast or you represent someone who’d like to be a guest on the podcast, please email Travis or the Fantasy Inn.

Since our number of guest slots are limited, here are some things to keep in mind when reaching out:

  • Priority will be given to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ guests, guests who have not been on the podcast before, and guests who who have something current to promote. For authors, we prefer interviews to be timed with the first or last book in a series (e.g. not book 7 of 12).
  • We typically begin booking guests two months before an episode’s target release date, so please reach out early. We prefer to record a good bit earlier than the episode’s actual release date.
  • One interview per project. We wont interview an author for multiple releases in the same series. However, this restriction doesn’t apply to guests on discussion or panel episodes.

Accessibility

Keeping the podcast accessible is important to us. All episodes are normalized to -16 LUFS mono audio, and paying for episode transcription is the top priority of our Patreon and Ko-Fi accounts.

If there is anything we can do to make the podcast more accessible, please let us know.
