The Pairing

Ankaran Immersion, by Will Weisser

The Reasoning

Evie holds to the old laws of her people, and at one point during Ankaran Immersion she creates a brewed tea as she seeks a spirit quest to aid her in finding her brother. While I can’t promise that you’ll be guided to your purpose, I can promise you an earthy, boozy iced tea cocktail.

The Cocktail

You will need:

  • Highball Glass
  • Paring or channeling knife
  • 5-6 ice cubes
  • 1 Orange
  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 1 oz Triple Sec
  • 1 tbsp Kahlua
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 6 dashes Chocolate Bitters
  • Iced Tea (unsweetened)

Measure and pour bourbon, triple sec, chocolate bitters and Kahlua into your glass. Add 1 tsp sugar and stir until dissolved. Carefully add ice to avoid splashing (it’s easier to stir in the sugar before the ice is added).

Take your knife and cut a twist of orange peel. Set aside. Also cut a thicker piece of peel. Take the thick piece of orange peel and rub the inside around the rim of the glass. Drop the twist into the glass as garnish.

Top up your glass with iced tea and stir. Twist the thicker peel slice above the drink to mist with orange oil.

Enjoy!

In addition to reading, I enjoy videogames, cooking, gardening, geeky cross-stitch, and, more recently, D&D. Outside of fantasy I read a lot of classics and I have a fondness for noir. My favorite fantasy authors include: Robin Hobb, Philip Pullman, Liam Perrin, Terry Pratchett, Anna Smith Spark, K.S. Villoso, Josiah Bancroft and Quenby Olson.
