The Pairing

Red Sister, by Mark Lawrence

The Reasoning

Red Sister takes place in a harsh, frozen world in which the young apprentice Nuns may look sweet, but they will kick your ass. A frozen margarita will do the same! Here I’m pairing the bright flavors of strawberries and basil with a splash of balsamic vinegar and tequila to give it a sour edge.

The Recipe

You will need:

  • Blender
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 2 oz tequila (Non-Alcoholic Substitute: Omit this Ingredient)
  • 1 oz triple sec (Non-Alcoholic Substitute: 3 oz Orange Juice)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 4 large basil leaves, plus a sprig for garnish
  • 7-8 large frozen strawberries (fresh will work if you add a couple more ice cubes to compensate)

Combine all ingredients in blender except basil sprig. Pulse to break up ice cubes, then blend until smooth. Pour into glass and garnish with sprig of basil.

Enjoy! Just drink responsibly and don’t try walking the path after a few of these. 😉
