The Firecat

The Pairing

The Path of Flames, by Phil Tucker

The Reasoning

One of the most adorable and intriguing creatures in Tucker’s world is the Firecat. A sweet companion animal, I found myself wanting to create a cocktail to represent them. This is a peachy concoction with a slow burn, and nicely customizable depending on your tolerance for heat! I think the amounts I used create a pleasant spiciness that isn’t too harsh, but those with a low tolerance and chili-heads may want to alter to their own tastes.

The Recipe

You will need:

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Ice
  • 2 oz Tequila
  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 4 oz peach juice
  • 2-3 drops orange bitters
  • 1 tsp red pepper/chilli jelly
  • 3-4 drops hot sauce (Or to taste. I used Tapatío, but others would be equally good!)
  • 1 sprig Rosemary

Put 4-5 ice cubes in the cocktail shaker. Add tequila, vodka, peach juice, orange bitters, red pepper jelly and hot sauce. Shake vigorously.

Fill a tumbler with ice cubes. Strain cocktail over the ice, and stir with the sprig of rosemary – leave in the tumbler for garnish.

Enjoy!

I’m Wol, resident bartender for the Inn, and maker of fantasy themed cocktails. I’m a big advocate for quality self-published novels. In addition to reading, I enjoy videogames, cooking, gardening, geeky cross-stitch, and, more recently, D&D. Outside of fantasy I read a lot of classics and I have a fondness for noir. My favorite fantasy authors include: Robin Hobb, Philip Pullman, Liam Perrin, Terry Pratchett, Anna Smith Spark, K.S. Villoso, Josiah Bancroft and Quenby Olson.
