It’s been a great first round of SPFBO 7. We at the Inn read so many memorable books. In the end, however, we each decided to put forth one semifinalist:
- Reign and Ruin by J.D. Evans (Devin’s Review)
- Old Bolts by Edward Nile (Adam’s Review)
- The Flame and the Blade by Meredith Hart (Jared’s Review)
- Ringlander: The Path and the Way by Michael S. Jackson (Kop’s Review)
- Kept from Cages by Phil Williams (Hiu’s Review)
In our backroom we spent time civilly lambasting each other’s books. Alright, we didn’t do that exactly. We just talked at length a bit about what we thought of each other’s picks. Taking everyone’s thoughts into account, there were two books that were in serious consideration for our finalist slot. Those were:
- Reign and Ruin by J.D. Evans
- Old Bolts by Edward Nile
We’re considering putting together a post to share some more detailed (and conflicting!) thoughts on each of our semifinalist picks. It might be best to leave that until Finalist Fever has died down, though, so let’s just dive right into it!
We are so excited to announce that The Fantasy Inn’s finalist for this year’s SPFBO is…
A huge congratulations!! This was a really tough decision. We encourage you to check out the other semifinalists as well as the books that didn’t make it there. You can check out all of our reviews on this years batch over at our SPFBO 7 Hub, there’s bound to be something for you. SPFBO is a tough competition, and sometimes a book just ends up in the wrong hands. If you think a book sounds intriguing, definitely give it a shot and support the authors!
We’ll see you all in Phase 2!
