The Pairing
Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames
The Reasoning
Perhaps predictably, one thing I personally had been hoping for in Bloody Rose was another appearance by one of my very favorite mythical creatures, the Owlbear. Thankfully I wasn’t disappointed, and it also turns out that they love bananas. Who knew?
Well, that’s definitely something I can work with! I realized it’s been a while since I did a layered shot, and this seemed like a good opportunity to make one. Here I made an infused banana/vanilla vodka combined with crème de cacao and a little whipped cream, and the result is a shot that’s not unlike a banana split. 🙂
Banana/Vanilla Vodka
You will need:
- Glass Jar (a clean jam or mason jar works great)
- 5 oz Vodka
- Half a banana, sliced
- Half a teaspoon vanilla extract
- Cheesecloth
Put sliced banana in glass jar and top up with 5 oz vodka. Add vanilla extract – screw lid on firmly, give it a good shake and leave it for 24-48 hrs. When ready, strain the vodka through cheesecloth and discard the chopped banana. Pour vodka back into jar and store.
The Cocktail
You will need:
- Shot Glass
- Spoon
- 1 oz Crème de Cacao
- 1 oz Banana/Vanilla Vodka
- Whipped Cream (canned)
- Chocolate Syrup
Take your shot glass and pour 1 oz Crème de Cacao into the bottom. Take your spoon and turn it upside down, touching the end of the spoon to the side of the glass just above the Crème de Cacao. Carefully pour the Banana Vodka over the top of the upturned spoon to create a distinct yellow layer (this might take a little practice but don’t worry, even if you fuck it up it still tastes good!). Once this is done, take your can of whipped cream and squirt a dollop onto the spoon. Carefully push the whipped cream off the spoon and onto the surface of the shot, and then take your chocolate syrup and squeeze a little on top of the cream.
Enjoy! And be sure to rise up to the challenge of your rival. 😀
