The Ruby Grove

The Pairing

The Ikessar Falcon by K.S. Villoso

The Reasoning

Early in the novel, Khine and Talyien visit the Ruby Grove, named for the striking red leaves of its trees. It’s an evocative scene, and it put me in mind of cherry blossoms and fragrant blooms. I felt that a cherry cocktail with sake, vanilla and ginger would be a perfect companion (much like Khine – hint hint, Kay 😉 ).

The Cocktail

You will need:

  • Tumbler
  • Ice
  • Spoon
  • 1 twist Lemon Peel (for garnish – optional)
  • 4 Black Cocktail Cherries
  • 1 tbsp. Cherry Syrup (if using jarred cherries, the syrup from the jar works great)
  • 2 drops Vanilla Extract
  • 2 oz Dry Sake (Non-Alcoholic Substitute: Omit this Ingredient)
  • Ginger Ale

Remove stems/pits from cherries if applicable – muddle in the bottom of the tumbler with the back of a spoon. Add vanilla, cherry syrup and sake, then stir. Fill the glass with ice, and top off with ginger ale. Garnish with lemon twist if desired. Enjoy!

I’m Wol, resident bartender for the Inn, and maker of fantasy themed cocktails. I’m a big advocate for quality self-published novels. In addition to reading, I enjoy videogames, cooking, gardening, geeky cross-stitch, and, more recently, D&D. Outside of fantasy I read a lot of classics and I have a fondness for noir. My favorite fantasy authors include: Robin Hobb, Philip Pullman, Liam Perrin, Terry Pratchett, Anna Smith Spark, K.S. Villoso, Josiah Bancroft and Quenby Olson.
