Mulled Mead

The Pairing

The Faraway North by Ian Cumpstey

The Reasoning

Let’s face it, after a long day out in the frozen North hunting Trolls, looting reddish-gold and rescuing maidens, you’re going to want a roaring fire, some roasted meat and hot spiced mead. I’ve obviously taken some liberties here so don’t expect it to be historically accurate, but do expect it to be tasty. 😀

The Cocktail

Serves 2. You will need:

  • Small Saucepan
  • 2 Mugs
  • 20 oz Mead
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 6 Cloves
  • 1 Orange
  • 1 Lemon
  • Optional: Turbinado/Raw Sugar to taste

Put cloves, cinnamon and mead into saucepan, along with 2 slices each of orange and lemon. Add a generous squeeze of orange and lemon juice. Heat on medium-high heat until close to boiling, then lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes.

Strain mead into mugs, and garnish with an orange/lemon slice and a cinnamon stick if desired. If you feel it needs additional sweetness (some meads are sweeter than others), add sugar to taste & stir. Enjoy, and stay warm. 🙂

I’m Wol, resident bartender for the Inn, and maker of fantasy themed cocktails. I’m a big advocate for quality self-published novels. In addition to reading, I enjoy videogames, cooking, gardening, geeky cross-stitch, and, more recently, D&D. Outside of fantasy I read a lot of classics and I have a fondness for noir. My favorite fantasy authors include: Robin Hobb, Philip Pullman, Liam Perrin, Terry Pratchett, Anna Smith Spark, K.S. Villoso, Josiah Bancroft and Quenby Olson.
