Stone’s Throw

The Pairing

The Heart of Stone, by Ben Galley

The Reasoning

I’m never going to have a better excuse to use pop rocks in a cocktail, that’s for sure! Task is a Golem, one of the last of his kind. Veined with blue and imbued with magic, something in his creation went wrong, leaving him with complex thoughts and feelings.

Here I chose tropical pop rocks mainly for their color, but any flavor should work (I’d give the kind that turns into bubblegum a miss though, unless you really like scrubbing glasses). 😉

The Cocktail

You will need:

  • Highball glass
  • 2 saucers
  • 6-8 ice cubes
  • Caramel Sauce
  • Pop rocks of your preferred flavor (I chose tropical)
  • Your preferred Cola
  • 1.5 oz Bourbon
  • 1 tbsp Amaretto
  • 1 tbsp Creme de Cacao

Take your two saucers – pour your packet of pop rocks onto one, and around a tablespoon of caramel sauce onto the other. Turn your highball glass upside down and coat the rim first in the caramel sauce, then in the pop rocks. Tap to knock off any loose ones.

Fill your prepared glass with ice cubes. Measure in your bourbon, amaretto and creme de cacao. Stir, then top up with your cola of choice (cherry coke and cherry pop rocks would work very well here). Giggle like an absolute child, like I did.

Enjoy, and let’s hope the Task bits don’t explode your stomach. 😉

I’m Wol, resident bartender for the Inn, and maker of fantasy themed cocktails. I’m a big advocate for quality self-published novels. In addition to reading, I enjoy videogames, cooking, gardening, geeky cross-stitch, and, more recently, D&D. Outside of fantasy I read a lot of classics and I have a fondness for noir. My favorite fantasy authors include: Robin Hobb, Philip Pullman, Liam Perrin, Terry Pratchett, Anna Smith Spark, K.S. Villoso, Josiah Bancroft and Quenby Olson.
